Four winter music débutantes
At the beginning of 2025, Tomáš is presenting four new debuting compositions to the audience. The first of these was the Confluere by the internationally successful Lithuanian female composer Justė Janulytė. The work was jointly commissioned by Radio France, L’Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire and the Brno Philharmonic; it was with the latter ensemble that Tomáš premiered it in the Czech Republic to an excellent response on 9 and 10 January at Brno’s Beseda House.

Three days ago, Tomáš introduced another débutante to the society: together with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, they gave the world premiere of Le tombeau de Josquin by Flemish composer Piet Jozef Swerts, a magnificent symphonic work commissioned by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and inspired by the Flemish musical heritage and the exceptional personality of Renaissance composer Josquin Desprez.

On 5, 6 and 7 February Tomáš will return to the Czech Philharmonic with whom he will perform two world premieres in one evening: the symphonic tableau Labyrinth of Memory by this year’s 90-year-old Jiří Teml and the Cello Concerto, which the Czech Philharmonic commissioned from the British composer Richard Blackford. The solo part will be performed by American virtuoso Alisa Weilerstein; the performer refers to the new composition as the composer’s response to the tumultuous pandemic year of 2020 and to the killing of George Floyd by the American police in the article on Bachtrack.
